MONITORING (SW) – In 2024 year, the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) in Afghanistan vaccinated 11.6 million children under the age of five against polio.
The head of UNICEF, Tajudeen Oyewale, stated in a post on X on Tuesday that the fight to eradicate polio in Afghanistan is not over yet.
He emphasized that UNICEF and its partners are committed to ensuring that every child receives the polio vaccine to protect them from the disease.
As of 2025, only one case of polio has been reported in Afghanistan, specifically in Badghis, a province located in the northwest of the country.
Currently, Afghanistan and Pakistan are the only two countries in the world where polio has not been fully eradicated.
