KABUL (SW) – Officials at Afghanistan’s electricity company, Da Afghanistan Breshna Sherkat (DABS), have signed contracts for seven new power generation projects.
The signing ceremony held on Thursday, was attended by Abdul Ghani Baradar, the Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs, along with representatives from several local companies and one foreign company.
Abdul Bari Omari, the general director of DABS, stated that these seven projects include solar, wind, and gas power generation with a combined capacity of 228 megawatts, valued at $292 million.
“These include 43.2 MW of wind power in Herat, 50 MW of gas power in Jowzjan, 40.25 MW of solar power in Balkh, 40 MW of solar power in Logar, 40.25 MW of solar power in Nangarhar, 10 MW of solar power in Laghman, and 5 MW of solar power in Herat,” he said.
Additionally, DABS officials signed agreements for two other projects, including the completion of a 110-kilovolt power transmission line between Kajaki and Kandahar and a substation project in Qalat, Zabul province, in the eastern part of Kandahar.
Representatives from the companies involved in implementing these contracts assured that the projects would meet the country’s growing energy demands.
Hekmatullah Kakar, the CEO of Zwakman Nabizai Company, expressed confidence in the timely completion of the projects, saying, “We guarantee the successful completion of these projects within the set time frame, and through their implementation, we will supply electricity to various provinces of the country.”
Sulaiman Jilio, the CEO of the 77 Turkey Company, added, “We are implementing more than 43 MW of wind power generation in Herat and 40 MW of solar power in Nangarhar, and these projects will meet international standards.”
According to DABS, the completion of these seven power projects will result in a 30% increase in domestic electricity production in Afghanistan.
