Farah’s deadly deluge claims 22 lives and leaves 25 injured

FARAH CITY (SW) – The devastating flash floods in Farah province have resulted in the loss of 22 lives, with 25 others injured, local officials reported.

Mohammad Israel Sayar, head of the disaster preparedness directorate in Farah, told Salam Watandar that on Tuesday afternoon (1:00 p.m. LT), three families had gone for a recreational trip to a mountain in the “Kojar” village of Pusht-e-Koh district, where they were caught in the flood.

Sayar added that, as a result of the flash floods in the district, 21 people have lost their lives, and five others have been injured. The victims include men, women, and children.

Sayar also confirmed the death of one more person, with 20 others injured in the flash floods in the Bakwah district of Farah.

He further mentioned that health, rescue, and security teams have been dispatched to the area to assist in rescuing and evacuating those trapped by the flood.

According to Sayar, six houses, 800 solar panels, and 1,960 jeribs of agricultural land have been completely destroyed due to the flood.

On Monday, the Meteorological Department of the Ministry of Transport and Civil Aviation issued a warning about the potential for heavy snowfall, rainfall, and flash floods in 32 provinces on Tuesday.
