FIROZKOH CITY (SW) – A growing number of women in Ghor province are suffering from back and joint pain.
Despite seeking medical treatment, many of these women say they have struggled with these ailments for years.
Khorshid, a 35-year-old woman, shared her experience with Salam Watandar, saying that she has repeatedly visited doctors for her back and leg pain, but still suffers.
“Since last year, my back pain has worsened. I have had two MRIs check-up and visited hospitals. They told me I have issues with three or four vertebrae and suggested surgery. My back pain is severe; even sitting is painful, and after walking 10 to 11 steps, my back hurts, and I cannot continue moving. My back and right leg hurts a lot,” she explained.
Gul Chehra and Zahra, two other women suffering from back and joint pain, attribute their conditions to hard labor.
Gul Chehra said, “I have leg pain because of my work. I carry bricks, do plastering, build houses, feed the sheep, and work continuously. This has caused pain in my shoulders and legs.”
Zahra added, “I went to the mountains, harvested grass and wheat, filled sacks, loaded them on cattle, and emptied them into storage. Now I am crippled by pain, unable to move from side to side at night.”
Abdul Ahmad Noori, a doctor in Ghor, pointed to poor diet and economic hardships as key factors contributing to the rise in back and joint pain among women.
“Unfortunately, many women, whether pregnant or not, suffer from joint and spinal pain. From my assessments, this is largely due to poverty and an imbalanced diet lacking proper nutrients,” Noori stated.
While back and joint pain among women in Ghor is on the ririse, doctors say that adopting a balanced diet rich in vegetables, fruits, milk, and yogurt can help combat these conditions.
