Afghan youth rally to aid flood victims in Ghor

FIROZKOH (SW) – Several young individuals in Ghor have initiated a campaign to assist the flood victims in this province.

Setting up a temporary camp in the central district of Ghor, they appeal to the public, merchants, and relief organizations to contribute to the relief efforts for the flood-stricken areas of Marghab and Charsada districts.

Hamidullah Zhawak, one of the youths, said: “The purpose of setting up this camp is to collect aid for the flood victims in Marghab and other districts who have unfortunately suffered serious damages in recent days.”

Shamsulhaq Moahed, another participant, adds: “The people of Firozkoh, along with residents of other districts and local institutions, are urged to assist. We collect all kinds of aid, from cash donations to carpets and utensils, and we aim to deliver them promptly to the affected people in Marghab.”

Other youths highlight the devastating impact of the floods, which have displaced hundreds of families in Marghab and Charsada, leaving them without shelter and basic necessities, living in open spaces.

Abdul Basir Yazdanpanah, also reports: “In each village, 10 to 70 houses have been completely destroyed, along with all the belongings and facilities of the residents, swept away by the floods.”

Mohammad Sadeq Rasas another participant emphasizes the urgent need for solidarity, stating: “Many families have lost their homes, belongings, and livelihoods. They are in dire need of support from the community. According to my knowledge, there are shortages of water, food, clothing, and medicine, and the Public Health Directorate authorities’ efforts are insufficient.”

Efforts were made to obtain comments from local authorities in Ghor regarding the extent of the losses caused by the recent floods, but due to the lack of accurate statistics, they declined to comment.

However, local residents and youth in Ghor province assert that the recent floods have claimed three lives in Marghab, Charsada, and Tiura districts, killed dozens of livestock, and destroyed over 500 residential homes, along with thousands of jeribs of agricultural land and orchards.

Meanwhile, officials in Herat and Badghis provinces also report that recent floods have claimed nine lives, killed over 500 livestock, and destroyed more than 300 homes in these two provinces.
