KABUL (SW) – A number of Kabul residents have marked the ceremony of “Jhanda Bala” (flag hoisting) at the “Karte Sakhi” shrine here.

With the beginning of the solar new year, a number of residents of the capital held the ceremony at the Karte Sakhi shrine. This number of residents of the capital, Kabul city, who gathered to participate in this ceremony, say that commemorating this day is one of the ancient cultures in the country.

They, while being satisfied with the strict security measures on this day, want the de-facto government of the Islamic Emirate to solve the existing challenges, including poverty, unemployment and women’s educational problems, in the new year.

Mohammad Jawad, a resident of Kabul, says: “We celebrate this day every year by going to entertainment places and Karte Sakhi. We are very happy that the security is good this year.”

Hussain Ali, another resident of Kabul, also says: “We started the new year with happiness. Security is very good. We hope the government will address other problems, including unemployment and girls going to school.”

However, some residents of Kabul say that they started this year hoping to have a year full of peace, prosperity and success.

At the same time, Antonio Guterres, the Secretary-General of the United Nations, by broadcasting a message on the occasion of Nowruz, has expressed hope that the new year will bring peace and tranquility to everyone in the world.
