Islamic Emirate rejects allegations of abusing humanitarian aid

KABUL (SW) – A day after a US senator claimed that the Islamic Emirate misused humanitarian aid to Afghanistan, the officials in the Ministry of Economy of the de-facto government say that governmental departments have no involvement in the process of distributing humanitarian aid to the needy.

Abdurrahman Habib, the spokesperson of this ministry, said: “The humanitarian aid provided by the international community has been processed from the beginning without the intervention of government departments by aid institutions and the United Nations. We support the transparent working process of domestic and foreign aid institutions.”

Marco Antonio Rubio, the US Republican senator, presented a bill to the Congress, according to which, the humanitarian aid of the United States to Afghanistan must be stopped until it is ensured that it is transparently used. This senator told Fox News that the Islamic Emirate benefits from humanitarian aid to Afghanistan.

Marco Rubio added: “The Taliban should not benefit from American taxpayers’ money. Unfortunately, this is the scenario that happens in practice in front of our eyes. Until we can ensure the transparency of the process, aid to the United Nations must be suspended.”

Meanwhile, officials in the Ministry of Economy consider it important to continue the humanitarian aid of countries to Afghanistan.

On the other hand, economic experts say that the suspension of US humanitarian aid to Afghan citizens, in a situation where this country needs international aid more than ever, can leave many negative consequences.

Nasir Rashtia, an expert on economic issues, told Salam Watandar that the Afghan citizens are now under economic sanctions and the country’s economy depends on foreign aid. “The Islamic Emirate cannot control all the challenges in the short term,” he said.

It should be mentioned that prior to this, the US officials warned that the Islamic Emirate cannot afford to abuse the financial aid of this country and its partner organizations to Afghanistan.

After the re-establishment of the Islamic Emirate in Afghanistan, the United States has been the largest donor to this country and has provided more than two billion dollars worth of aid to Afghanistan during this period.
