Qala-e Zal residents in Kunduz demand for enhanced health services

KUNDUZ (SW) – A number of residents of the Qala-e Zal district of Kunduz province say that the hospital in this district has a capacity of 10 beds, which is not enough for the patients. They complain about the lack of standard equipment in the Qala-e-Zal district hospital and say that for years, they have been transferring most of their patients to the Kunduz center for treatment.

The Qala-e Zal residents say that they have been demanding the improvement of health services in this district for decades, but this request has not been fulfilled yet.

Asadullah Tofan, a resident of Qala-e-Zal district, says: “There is a very small clinic, which is not enough for us. It may have five or 10 beds. In this clinic, we are facing a shortage of medicines, specialist doctors and nurses, a shortage of ambulances, etc. When patients come, due to insufficient space of the clinic, most patients do not get a turn.”

Meanwhile, Amanullah Rahmani, another resident of Qala-e-Zal district, says that up to 100 people visit the hospital each day. However, due to the lack of personnel and insufficient space in the hospital, not all patients are treated.

“We are forced to transfer the patients to the center of the province. Due to the bad condition of the road, sometimes patients die on the way. If we have an equipped clinic, we do not need to go to the center of the province to see a doctor. We request the relevant government officials to upgrade the clinic and bring equipment and expert doctors,” he added.

On the other hand, officials at the Kunduz Public Health Department say that they are trying to address the health problems in different parts of this province.

Rahmatullah Tutakhil, Deputy Director of Public Health of Kunduz, told Salam Watandar that there are six health centers in this Qala-e Zal district and they provide services around the clock.

He adds: “God willing, the Aq-tapa clinic will be upgraded soon, and its personnel and medicine will be increased. The gynecological-obstetrical personnel and surgeon job positions were completed last week.”
