Quadrilateral meeting on Afghanistan to be held soon

KABUL (SW) – The Special Representative of the Russian President for Afghanistan affairs, Zamir Kabulov, announces the upcoming quadrilateral meeting on Afghanistan by the end of January 2024, as reported by the TASS news agency.

Zamir Kabulov sheds light on the upcoming quadrilateral meeting, focusing on discussions about the formation of a comprehensive government and strategies to address issues related to terrorism and drug trafficking. The details regarding the timing and host countries for the upcoming quadrilateral meeting on Afghanistan are still uncertain.

Before this, the Islamic Emirate has repeatedly announced its response to form an inclusive government and fight against terrorism and drug trafficking.

In the latest case, Zabihullah Mujahid, the spokesperson for Afghanistan’s de-facto government, responded to Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov’s call for an all-inclusive government, defending the government’s inclusivity and considered external statements on this matter as interference in Afghanistan’s internal affairs.

On the other hand, Bilal Fatemi, a political expert, says, “In the light of Pakistan’s hostility and Russia’s opposition, there is no hope for these meetings, especially in this meeting where the Islamic Emirate’s representative is not present, Afghanistan will be discussed in its absence, they will not be able to conclude.”

In the past two years, various countries worldwide have urged the establishment of an all-inclusive government in Afghanistan and expressed concerns about terrorist threats originating from the country. However, the international community remains dissatisfied, finding the assurances from the current Afghan government inadequate in addressing these calls.
