At a few miles from Khost city, Gharshin residents deprived of basic services

KHOST City (SW) – The residents of Gharshin, an isolated area 14 kilometers from the Khost city, say that they still lack access to basic services and encounter numerous challenges.

They add that the clinic and school buildings were destroyed during the previous Afghanistan wars, and currently, two families are residing in these partially ruined structures.

Residents of Gharshin village mentioned that they have shared these concerns with the Khost governor, but, according to them, no satisfactory resolution has been provided.

“The problem is the lack of clinic and the school. We have shared our problem with the governor and even the ministry, but no one has solved our problem. Our children study under the trees,” said Mohammad-Wali Shah, a resident of Gharshin village.

Another resident of the Gharshin, Ismael, says that approximately 600 families reside in this village, lacking basic health services and educational facilities for their children.

“The clinic is completely ruined; Lack of water is another big problem for us. The roads are in a very bad situation. The government has not paid any attention to us.”

Residents of Gharshin village emphasize that they lack access to clean water, and the depletion of underground water has reached a point where economic constraints prevent them from digging deeper wells.

Provincial officials in Khost confirm the challenges faced by the Gharshin residents and assure them of solutions. They mention that the clinic in the area has been relocated based on the advice of the council of local religious scholars and elders.

Mahbub-Shah Qanat, the deputy governor of Khost, says: “We will appoint a committee to carry out a complete investigation and find a solution to the existing problems.”

Residents of Gharshin express disappointment, stating that no reconstruction projects have been initiated in the region over the past two decades, failing to bring positive changes to people’s lives.
