Japan donated $7 million to Afghanistan for combating contagious diseases

KABUL (SW) – Japan has donated approximately $7 million to address and combat contagious diseases in Afghanistan.

The contract for this aid was signed between the Japanese ambassador and the representative of the World Health Organization in Kabul, on Saturday, December 17.

Officials at the Embassy of Japan in Kabul say that through this aid, the World Health Organization and its partners will be able to enhance diagnostic and clinical services.

According to them, this aid aims to reduce the death rate caused by contagious diseases such as COVID-19, measles, respiratory disease, Congo, and other diseases in Afghanistan.

Takayoshi Kurumiya, the ambassador of Japan in Kabul, says: “Japan will support two governmental hospitals, Entani and Afghan-Japan, for one year with this seven million dollar donation, and the purpose of these donations is to reduce the mortality of contagious patients in Afghanistan, and these donations will continue.”

Meanwhile, the officials at the World Health Organization in Afghanistan say that with this donation, they can provide treatment for 76 thousand patients in Afghanistan.

Luo Dapeng, the representative of WHO in Afghanistan, says: “We thank for these donations for World Health Organization which will continue, and through these donations, we will provide treatment for 76,000 contagious patients.”

It should be mentioned that the Embassy of Japan in Kabul has donated 447 million dollars to Afghanistan since August 2021.
