KABUL (SW) – A pharmaceutical factory named “Asia Noor” in Kabul has started to operate on Wednesday.
This factory was built at the expense of four million US dollars in the “Kachkin” area of Kotal Khair-khana in Kabul city and started its operations officially on Wednesday, December 13.
According to officials, high-quality medicine at a low price will be produced in the Asia Noor factory.
The officials of the pharmaceutical factory told Salaam Watandar that about 68 types of medicines are produced in this factory.
Ziauddin Mayar Wardak, the head of this factory, asks the officials to prevent medicine smuggling to Afghanistan to increase investment in the country.
He says: “We have problems in the market. We cannot fight against the smuggling; The efforts are few and there are some issues in the market that this department cannot fight.
Meanwhile, officials at the Afghanistan Food and Drug Authority say that they have increased their efforts to prevent medicine smuggling into the country.
Abdul-Bari Omar, the head of this department, says that the import of 15 domestically produced medicines has been banned.
“70% of families’ income is spent on treating their patients in Afghanistan. For self-sufficiency, we have imposed restrictions on medicine smuggling; there is 10 to 20 percent, we are trying to reduce this too,” he added.
Officials of the Afghanistan Food and Drug Authority ask citizens and health workers to use domestically produced medicines to support pharmaceutical factories in the country.
Noorulhaq Anwar, the head of the affairs department, says that the de-facto government is trying to solve the problems of the pharmaceutical factories.
He adds: “The Islamic Emirate is trying to solve the problems of the medicine factory owners, and those who sell low-quality medicines to earn a few Afghanis, should be dealt with legally.”
According to the information of the Afghanistan Food and Drug Administration, currently, 95 medicine factories are active across the country.
