KABUL (SW) – Mohammad Ashraf Haqshanas, the spokesperson of the Ministry of Public Works, told Salam Watandar that the construction work of the highway, including the Salang tunnel, is going on at a fast pace.
Haqshanas added that the concrete pouring of the first layer inside the Salang tunnel has been completed up to one kilometer and according to him, the workers are trying to complete the work soon. Although he did not reveal the exact date of the completion of the road, he said that the cold weather will hinder the work.
Mohammad Ashraf Haqshanas, the spokesperson of the Ministry of Public Works, also said that the construction of the alternative route of Salang, “Khawak Kotal and Doshi-Bamian” route is also under work, and according to him, travelers should be patience and cautious.
The reconstruction of the 80-kilometer road of Salang highway started almost two months ago. This highway connects the nine northern provinces of the country with the capital Kabul.
In addition, the Salang highway is considered one of the important roads of the country, in addition to passengers, many commercial goods are transported from the north, south, east and from the south and east to the north of the country through here.
