Iranian traders seek investment opportunities in Afghanistan

KABUL (SW) – A visiting Iranian trade delegation has requested the authorities of the Islamic Emirate to provide provide opportunities for investment in Afghanistan.

The businessmen and investors from Iran on Monday attended the “Meeting of the Economic Delegation of Iran and Afghanistan” in Kabul.

Hassan Kazemi Qomi, Iran’s ambassador and special representative for Afghanistan, said in this meeting that there are the capacities for investment in Afghanistan and there is a need to provide solutions and fields for Iranian investors and businessmen.

He added: “The economic capacities of the two countries are such that we can work in each sector and these should provide us with a formula or solution. For example, in the economic sectors, what sall we do, in agriculture, railways and energy sectors, we want a solution for cooperation. Obstacles should be removed, problems should be removed and a law should be formulated.”

Iran’s ambassador and special representative for Afghanistan emphasized that the activation of the railway line from Afghanistan to Chabahar is Iran’s priority in order to expand Afghanistan’s commercial activities.

Meanwhile, Mahmoud Siadat, the head of the Iran-Afghanistan Joint Chamber of Commerce, said on the occasion that this economic delegation consists of 85 people, including the governor of Iran’s Khorasan province, Razavi, who has come to Kabul to examine investment opportunities in Afghanistan.

He added: “The delegation that left Iran is about 85 people; including businessmen, investors and economic activists who intend to come and see the conditions of Afghanistan closely. They also include officials of the private sector of the industry, trade, mines and investment. This trip is three days and these meetings will end tomorrow night.”

On the other hand, Mohammad Younes Momand, the deputy of the Afghanistan Chamber of Commerce and Investment, asked the Iranian delegation to invest in mining, electricity, transit, health and other sectors in Afghanistan.

In this meeting, both sides emphasized on the expansion of economic and investment relations and the creation of common markets on the border between Afghanistan and Iran, and demanded the creation of bilateral facilities in the field of transit between the two countries.
