Helmand residents demand reconstruction of the key road connecting to Lashkargah

KABUL (SW) – A number of Helmand residents say that the 300-kilometer road that connects the city of Lashkargah, the capital of this province, to Nawa, Garmsir, Khanshin and Bahramcha districts of Helmand, has been destroyed and this issue has caused them many problems.

A number of travelers who commute on this road say that traveling on this rough and damaged road is dangerous and most of the time, drivers lose their way. According to them, the newly installed lights from “Banadr” area to Garmsir and Bahramcha districts could help drivers and passengers to find their way.

Abdul Ghani, one of the travelers who passes through this road, says: “This road is very dangerous. Installing tthe lights is a good thing, but this road must be built properly . Drivers always get lost here. Therefore, we are in dire need of this road.”

On the other hand, a number of truck drivers also complain about the bad condition of this road and say that traveling on this road takes hours and even nights and days, which causes technical problems for their cars.

Allah Nazar says: “I have walked at night. I have traveled for two to eight nights and after Lashkargah, another vehicle came to get me. The distance is very long, and sometimes I have encountered car breakdowns and problems with water and food.”

Abdul Jabbar, another driver, said: “The road is very bad. If the road is built, it will be a good thing. Our cars get problems.”

Meanwhile, the local officials of Helmand have emphasized that the efforts to build this road have started.

Mohammad Qasim Riaz, Deputy Director of Information and Culture of Helmand, told Salam Watandar: “This issue has been discussed with the leadership and the Ministry of Public Works. This is really a general problem, but it is hoped that this road will be built, if not in a basic way, then it will be built in the same way. But it is planned to be built fundamentally in the future.”

However, until now, the exact number of those who disappeared or lost their lives on this route is not clear, but according to reports, a number of passengers have lost their lives on this route.
