MoIC vows to publish books for struggling writers

KABUL (SW) – Officials of the Ministry of Information and Culture have vowed to publish books and other unpublished works for free for writers who have economic problems will .

Officials of the ministry made these statements at the opening session of a book exhibition at Kabul University of Medical Sciences here.

Hayatullah Mohajer Farahi, deputy minister at the MoIC, told the opening session that writers who are struggling with economic problems will get their books published for free.

He said: “We will print the books of authors who have economic problems for free, and we also ask teachers to send their content to enrich the content of the state media.”

Officials of Kabul University of Medical Sciences (Abu Ali Ibn Sina) said in this three-day exhibition that different types of books on medical, political, social sciences and general information have been displayed.

Asadullah Najat, the head of the university, said: “We should always organize book exhibitions and in this exhibition, medical, social, historical, literary and general information books are displayed.”

At the same time, a number of people who visited the exhibition said that they can sell books at a cheap price in such exhibitions.

Ahmad Wali, a participant of the exhibition, said: “My opinion is that these exhibitions are effective. Books here are for 600 afghanis, in the market they are sold for 1100 and 1200 afghanis, these are good prices.”

This comes ast officials of the Afghan Publishers Association say that there are currently 150 publishers operating in the country, most of which are facing the threat of bankruptcy.
