Analysts see Pakistan pressurising Afghanistan with claims of cross-border terrorism

KABUL (SW) – The Pakistan Army has issued a statement claiming that the terror threats in Afghanistan are threatening Islamabad and that the Islamic Emirate should act to fulfill its obligations not to use Afghan soil against other countries.

This announcement of the Pakistan Army was issued yesterday after the visit of Asim Munir, the Chief of the Army Staff of this country, to Quetta, which last Wednesday witnessed a suicide attack organized by a group called Tehreek Jihad, in which 12 Pakistani soldiers were killed.

The Chief of Staff of the Pakistan Army has also claimed that members of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Taliban are actively present in Afghanistan, something that has been rejected many times by the Islamic Emirate.

Asadullah Nadeem, an expert on military issues, said that Pakistan is seeking to implement its national interests in Afghanistan by raising this issue.

He added: “The fact that Pakistan is so secretive that it is under threat from Afghanistan’s soil is a kind of oppression to put pressure on Afghanistan to accept a series of things that are against the national interests of Afghanistan. For example, the transfer of TTP and their families to northern Afghanistan.”

Experts on military issues are still criticizing the approach of the Pakistani government in curbing terrorist threats inside this country.

Mohammad Matin Mahmudkhel, an expert on military issues, says: “When there is a threat, keeping the borders is the responsibility of the two countries. If there is a threat to Pakistan from Afghanistan’s borders, why are the border forces of this country not complaining and these statements are happening inside Pakistan.”

So far, the Islamic Emirate authorities have not reacted to these statements and Pakistan’s concerns regarding the threats from Afghanistan, and in this regard, they has also not responded to Salam Watandar’s question.
