QALAT (SW) – For the past many years, the Pakistani rupee has been used in commercial transactions in many provinces of Afghanistan, but now the local officials in Uruzgan province have set a deadline not to use it anymore.

Qari Aghawali Qureshi, Director of Information and Culture, said during a press conference on Sunday that no one is allowed to use the rupee in this province anymore. “A committee has been set up and based on the decision of this committee, people will be able to do business in Kaldara until next Saturday. After that, no one is allowed.”

This committee has given a serious recommendation to the citizens that wholesale and retail transactions in other foreign currencies are prohibited except through money changers.

Although the residents of Uruzgan are happy with this decision of the government, they demanded that afghani banknotes are scarce and people are forced to use rupees.

According to them, government officials should try to increase and promote afghani banknotes so that people do not face financial loss.

Economic analysts say that the government should also introduce new afghani banknotes to the market so that people can get them and buy and sell in afghanis.
