The “Silk Bridge” border crossing with Iran temporarily opened

NIMROZ (SW) – The “Silk Bridge” border crossing with Iran has been temporarily opened, confirmed an official statement.

The press office of Nimroz Province has announced that the “Silk Bridge” crossing between Iran and Afghanistan has been temporarily opened for passengers and transit vehicles this morning.

The newsletter stated that travelers who have legal documents and transit vehicles located on both sides of the border can travel until 9:00 tonight.

In the newsletter, it is emphasized that passengers and transit vehicles cannot pass through smuggling and irregular remote routes.

Following the tensions between the border guards of Iran and Afghanistan in the border areas of Nimroz Province, the “Silk Bridge” crossing was closed for more than a week. A number of passengers and drivers said that the prolonged blocking of this road has caused them to suffer.

The Silk Bridge crossing was closed to the movement of people and commercial goods as a result of tension and subsequent shooting between Iranian and Afghan border guards. An Iranian border guard and an Afghan child were killed and two children were injured in these clashes.
