KABUL (SW) – There is no shortage of medicine an health products in the market, the pharma industry people said on Saturday.
Officials of the Afghan Pharmaceutical Industry and Medical Products Unions rejected the recent concerns of citizens about the shortage of medicine in the markets, saying that there is already enough medicine to meet the demand for medicine in the markets.
Kamaluddin Kakar, president of the pharmaceutical traders’ union, said that the capacity to produce medicine in domestic factories is high; But there is no proper market for these drugs.
According to him, there are currently 86 drug factories in the country, of which 55 are operating in the drug production sector. He added that 360 types of medicine are produced in these factories and 15,000 people are directly and indirectly provided with jobs.
The head of the union emphasized that the government must cooperate in solving problems in the manufacturing sector and prevent the smuggling of drugs abroad.
On the other hand, Gul Halim Halim, another pharma industry official, said at the meeting that despite external constraints and high economic pressures the pharmaceutical services to citizens continue as in the past.
He called on the leadership of the Islamic Emirate, especially the National Food and Drug Administration, to cooperate with them in importing quality medicines within the framework of the law, as well as to support manufacturing plants.
Earlier, the pharmacists’ union warned that Afghanistan was facing a shortage of drugs.
