MONITORING (SW) – Officials at the Ministry of Interior of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan say that an attack on the ministry’s passport office in Kabul was prevented and that the attacker was killed before the attack.
Aqiljan Azam, the deputy spokesman for the Interior Ministry, said that the attacker wanted to enter the Kabul Passport General Directorate today, but was identified and killed by the security forces of this department.
The deputy spokesman for the Interior Ministry added that no one was injured in the incident and only the attacker was killed.
No individual or group has claimed responsibility for the attack.
The attack on the Kabul Passport General Directorate comes as the directorate dedicates Thursdays to distributing passports to Islamic Emirate forces and their families. Hundreds of people apply to the Kabul Passport General Office every day, which is difficult to control due to overcrowding.
Officials of the General Directorate of Passports have repeatedly asked citizens in press conferences to refer to this department on their own terms and not to cause congestion by visiting without a turn. It should be noted that the General Directorate of Passports in Kabul was closed about a month ago due to technical problems and resumed its activities on Sunday this week.
