Stranded Afghans in India demand safe return

KABUL (SW) – Afghan citizens stranded in India are reeling from the suspension of flights to and from Afghanistan with the rise to power of the Taliban in Kabul.

A number of Afghan citizens who went to India before the establishment of the Islamic Emirate in Afghanistan have said they are in a worrying situation and want to return to the country. But, the suspension of flights from India to Afghanistan has prevented them from returning.

These citizens of Afghanistan trapped in India added that they are facing many problems and can no longer continue with this situation.

Emil, an Afghan citizen in New Delhi, said Indian authorities are not allowing them to fly back and have confiscated their passports and urging them to travel via land routes.

Other Afghan citizens in India emphasized that they have repeatedly referred to the Afghan Embassy in India and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and asked to return to the country, but so far their problems have not been addressed and no results have been obtained.

Sayed Farhad Sadat, the representative of Afghan citizens in India, said that more than one thousand families came to India about two months ago and want to return to the country. According to him, all the required documents in India have been obtained from the Afghan embassy, but so far no action has been taken to bring them back.

Salam Watandar wanted to have the opinion of the officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Emirate in this regard, but to no avail.
