FM of Turkmenistan meets Taliban leadership in Kabul

KABUL (SW) – Foreign Minister of Turkmenistan, Rashid Muradov met with Prime Minister of the Islamic Emirate Mullah Mohammad Hassan Akhund and Acting Foreign Minister Amir Khan Mottaki here on Saturday.

Zabihullah Mujahid, spokesman for the Islamic Emirate, said that during the meeting matters related to economic, trade, security and humanitarian issues were discussed.

He added that in this meeting, a commitment has been made to start the TAPI project as soon as possible.

According to Mujahid, another part of the Turkmenistan Foreign Minister’s commitments has been to provide extensive humanitarian assistance in these difficult times in Afghanistan. Mujahid said that in the political sphere, too, the Turkmenistan foreign minister pledged his help, emphasizing upon Afghanistan’s independence and vowing not to interfere in Afghanistan’s affairs.

Rashid Muradov also met with Acting Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the meeting emphasized that the TAPI project and other development projects should begin as soon as possible.

Abdul Qahar Balkhi, spokesman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Emirate, said that during the meeting, Muradov said that his country was ready to strengthen its comprehensive relations with Afghanistan and its continued cooperation. The Foreign Ministry spokesman added that Turkmenistan was satisfied with the security of the borders as well as the trade process.

During the meeting, Muttaqi announced his readiness to implement the projects and called on Turkmenistan to expand its trade and provide visas and other facilities for Afghan businessmen.

Balkhi said the two sides agreed at the meeting that the two countries’ sectoral ministries would hold direct technical meetings to “facilitate and coordinate” to expand electricity, gas and oil trade and control rates.
