Analysts believe regional countries serving self interests in Afghanistan

KABUL (SW) – Analysts believe the second meeting of foreign ministers of Afghanistan’s neighboring countries was for self-serving purpose of the parties involved in this moot in Tehran, Iran.

With the presence of the foreign ministers of the neighboring countries in the Tehran meeting and in the absence of the representative of the Afghan government, the meeting agreed on the formation of an inclusive government in Afghanistan. At the end of a meeting of foreign ministers on Afghanistan in Tehran yesterday, participants issued a statement saying that the countries responsible for Afghanistan’s problems must live up to their commitments.

The statement said the countries should provide economic and also humanitarian assistance to Afghanistan and called on the international community to provide humanitarian assistance to Afghanistan. The statement also condemned all terrorist attacks in Afghanistan, including recent attacks on ethnic and religious groups.

Meanwhile, political analysts say the Tehran’s meeting on Afghanistan was not in the country’s interest. They added that the countries participating in the summit were pursuing their own interests and it was fruitless for Afghanistan.

Sayed Akbar Agha, a political analyst and former Taliban official, said the meeting showed that Iran was interfering in Afghanistan’s internal affairs. He added that despite the fact that the Islamic Emirate grants the rights to Shiites, Iran also raised the issue of violating the rights of Shiites in Afghanistan at the Tehran meeting, and this will not have a good result.

Mohibullah Sharif, another political analyst, says neighboring countries, at Iran’s initiative, want to offer a solution to Afghanistan that benefits them.

We tried to get the views of the Islamic Emirate about yesterday’s meeting in Tehran, but to no avail.

However, Bilal Karimi, the deputy spokesman for the Islamic Emirate, told some media outlets yesterday that the Taliban adheres to international principles and wants good and balanced relations with the region and the world, and is trying to address their concerns. He stressed that a government would be formed that would include representatives of all ethnic groups in Afghanistan.
