Afghanistan’s economic problems allowing Daesh to recruit fighters, says Iranian envoy

 

KABUL (SW) – Bahadur Aminian, Iran’s ambassador to Kabul, has said that Afghanistan’s economic problems are leading to the youth joining the ranks of extremist groups such as Daesh.

The Iranian embassy in Kabul has noted in a tweet that Ambassador Aminian had made the remarks during a meeting with Amir Khan Mottaqi, acting head of the Islamic Emirate’s foreign ministry in Afghanistan. The meeting took place yesterday in Kabul.

Aminian in a meeting Mottaqi said the economic problems are a disaster for the people of Afghanistan, the cause of the widespread of migration and recruitment of terrorist groups such as the Islamic State of Khorasan, which he dubbed as the common enemy of the two nations.

The Iranian ambassador in Kabul also said that everyone should deal with this issue responsibly. According to him, the pursuit of development, economic and humanitarian aid to Afghanistan should be considered.

After the rise to power of the Taliban’s Islamic Emirate’s in Afghanistan, poverty and unemployment have risen to an all-time high. There are concerns that terrorist groups, including IS-K are taking advantage of the people’s poverty and recruiting.

In an another development, at least 50 IS-K fighters recently surrendered to the Islamic Emirate in Nangarhar. Officials from the Nangarhar National Directorate of Security (NDS) said the 50 residents of Haska Mina and Kuzkunar districts of the province were operating in various parts of Nangarhar along IS-K lines, which has now surrendered to the Islamic Emirate with the help of tribal elders.

Nangarhar National Directorate of Security (NDS) officials say these former fighters who have surrendered has pledged that they will not take any military action against the government in the province in the future.
