GARDEZ (SW) – Targeted assassinations under suspicious circumstances of the former government officials are on the rise in southeastern.
Over the past week, a number of former government officials and employees have reportedly been killed by unidentified gunmen in the southeastern provinces of Paktia, Khost and Paktika.
Ezatullah Arian, former commander of the first security district in Gardiz, Shamim, former government soldier in Yahya Khalil district in Paktika, Ehsanuddin, former border police officer in Khost and Hilamand Jundi, poet and writer in the province, were killed over the past week by unidentified gunmen.
Former Paktia Governor Mohammad Halim Fidai told Salam Watandar that the current government is responsible for protecting the former government security officials and soldiers, as well as other civilians and all the people. According to him, such incidents are carried out by Taliban militants.
However, residents of these provinces say that soldiers and officials of the former government feel fear and panic despite the amnesty granted by the Islamic Emirate. They called on the Islamic Emirate to save the lives of officials and soldiers of the former government and to arrest and punish the perpetrators of targeted killings.
Security officials in the southeastern provinces say they are committed to a general amnesty and will take serious measures to prevent any such incidents.
Security officials in Paktia say they have arrested a number of people last month on charges of theft and other crimes.
