Daesh claims Jalalabad bombing

MONITORING (SW) – The so-called Islamic State or Daesh claimed responsibility for a series of bomb attacks in the city of Jalalabad in eastern Afghanistan, the group’s Amaaq News Agency said on its Telegram channel on Sunday.

“More than 35 Taliban militia members were killed or wounded, in a series of explosions that took place,” the militant group said, referring to blasts on Saturday and Sunday.

There was no immediate comment from the Taliban about the death count.

Sources had told Reuters on Saturday at least three people were killed and about 20 were wounded in blasts in Jalalabad, the capital of Nanjarhar province. The sources had said they were citing information from hospitals and eyewitnesses.

Back-to-back blasts in Jalalabad city on Saturday claimed at least three lives and left 21 others wounded.

A source in Nangarhar province told Salam Watandar that three separate blasts in different parts of Jalalabad, the provincial capital, had killed three civilians and wounded 21 others, including Taliban members, earlier in the day.

The source added that the explosions, which took place at around 10 am today at Kabul Station in Jalalabad, in the sixth district of the city, and in the Angurbagh area, in the fourth district of Jalalabad, were caused by landmines.

The source said that schoolchildren were among the injured in the blasts.
