War-weary IDPs offered shelters in mosques in Kabul

KABUL (SW) – The Ministry of Haj and Endowments has been directed to open gates of the mosques for the internally displaced families fleeing rages of war.

Amrullah Saleh, the first vice president, said in a social media post that the war refugees who have taken refuge in Kabul are being relocated to mosques. He said in a social media post that the Ministry of Hajj and Endowments was instructed to open the gates of the mosques to the citizens who have been displaced to Kabul.

Amrullah Saleh added that all security agencies and the police have been instructed that no one can prevent these needy families from entering the mosques. “Worship is nothing but service to the people,” he said.

According to the Ministry of Refugees and Returnees, the number of displaced people who have taken refuge in Kabul from Takhar, Baghlan, Kunduz and Badakhshan provinces reaches 17,000, and surveys are underway to determine their exact number. These families are now camping on the roads and in the resorts and are in a difficult situation.

The first vice president also wrote on his Facebook page yesterday that the government has taken care of the displaced people and will not withhold any government facilities and mobilization of international resources.

According to the Ministry of Refugees and Returnees, some 57,000 families across the country have been displaced by the war.
