Health workers anxious over dearth of salaries

KABUL (SW) – The dearth of salaries and conducing work environment have concerned a number of public health workers.

These health workers in the capital and provinces say that after the Taliban took control of the country and closed down public and private institutions, the closure of banks has also created challenges for them including financial constraints.

They said that health services are continued to be delivered and all staff and doctors attending to their duties as usual, but the lack of pay and non-payment of wages has raised concerns.

Abdul Helim Ghaffari, Baghlan’s deputy director of health, said it is hoped with the opening of banks and financial institutions, these concerns would be resolved.

Habiba Ebrahimkhel, one of the doctors, has expressed concern about the suspension of the payment process, saying that in addition to the problem in the payment process after the recent developments in the country, their benefits had not been paid properly since months. She added that their salaries have not been paid by the previous government for two months now.

For more than a week, all public and private institutions ceased to function after the Taliban took full control of Kabul and other provinces.

However, the new leadership of the Ministry of Health issued a statement urging all health workers, including women, to return to their duties.
