MONITORING (SW) – Afghan President Mohammad Ashraf met with his Iranian counterpart President-elect Seyed Ibrahim Raisi in Tehran on Thursday.
The presidency said in a statement that the meeting took place before noon in which the two sides discussed the expansion of cooperation and relations between the two countries.
During the meeting, Raisi stressed the need to continue supporting the Afghan government and efforts for a regional consensus for peace. The President of Iran has declared his country’s support for the people of Afghanistan to preserve the republic and the achievements of the last two decades, it added.

“We support a system in which the rights of all Afghans, including minorities, are protected, and our neighbors, especially Afghanistan, have a special place in our foreign policy,” said Raisi.
Meanwhile, President Ghani appreciated Iran’s assistance in various fields and emphasized the continuation of joint economic cooperation and the expansion of relations between the two countries.
President Ghani traveled to Iran this morning heading a high-level government delegation to attend the inauguration of the President-elect. The President was accompanied by second vice president Sarwar Danesh, foreign minister Mohammad Hanif Atmar among others.
