Health ministry asks people to stay vigilant against COVID-19 during Eid

KABUL (SW) – The Ministry of Public Health has asked people not to visit each other’s homes during Eid al-Adha to prevent the spread of the coronavirus.

Acting Minister of Public Health, Waheed Majrooh told a news conference in Kabul on Sunday that although the prevalence of coronavirus in the country, the number of people infected with the virus and the number of deaths due to it have decreased, but ignorance on the part of the public will only make matters worse.

He warned that if people do not follow the recommendations and guidelines of the Ministry of Public Health, the number of people infected with the virus and the resulting mortality rate will increase. He said Herat, Khost, Paktia, Takhar, Zabul, Farah, Faryab and Ghor are the provinces where the most positive cases of COVID-19 are recorded and the situation is considered urgent.

The acting minister further said that although significant steps have been taken to combat the virus, there are patients in many hospitals who are in difficult condition. He added that the country’s hospitals are now up to 80 percent full and if the fourth wave of the pandemic hit, the public health facilities would be overwhelmed.
