Drought and insecurity causes grim concerns in Jawzjan

SHEBERGHAN (SW) – A number of members of the Jawzjan Provincial Council say that the situation in the center and districts of the province is worrying due to hunger, drought and the spread of insecurity.

Hafizullah Nadrat, a member of the provincial council, told Salam Watandar this year’s drought is seriously threatening the province’s residents. According to him, if the aid is not provided in time, Jawzjan will face a humanitarian catastrophe.

The member of Jawzjan Provincial Council added that 98% of the population of the province is threatened by drought and hunger.

Meanwhile, Shafiqullah Talash, head of the Jawzjan Department of Agriculture, Irrigation and Livestock, said the drought this year posed a serious threat to the province’s residents. According to him, this year there has been a significant fall in wheat as well as yield of various seasonal fruits.
