QALAT (SW) – The Taliban captured Shenkai district of Zabul province on Thursday morning, sources told Salam Watandar.
A reliable source in Zabul told Salam Watandar the security forces in the Shinkai district of the province surrendered an army battalion to the Taliban this morning. According to the source, the army battalion was handed over to the Taliban on condition that local and security officials and security forces besieged by the group be allowed safe passage to Qalat, the capital of Zabul.

The Taliban also said in a newsletter that they had taken full control of the Shinkai district of Zabul by seizing the army battalion.
The sources added that during the past week, Mohibullah, Shinkai’s district governor, Enayatullah Hotak, deputy governor of Zabul, security chief Abdul Nasser Naseri and police chief Haji Zahir were under siege by the Taliban.
Local and security officials in Zabul have not yet commented.
