MFA rebukes Pakistan’s stance on ‘spoilers’ of peace

KABUL (SW) – The Ministry of Foreign ministry in Afghanistan on Friday, in reaction to the Pakistani foreign minister’s remarks, asserted that the true ‘spoilers’ of peace in Afghanistan are those who reject the legitimate demands of the Afghan people for peace, ceasefire.

“Peace in Afghanistan, in which the interests of the countries of the region, especially Pakistan, are tied, cannot be achieved by mere statements and declarations. The people of Afghanistan and the international community look forward to Pakistan taking steps to start meaningful peace talks and achieve lasting results”, it said.

The Afghan foreign ministry further stressed at this critical juncture, accusations are not constructive and are not in the interest of peace and stability in Afghanistan and the region.

The controversy emerged last month when the Afghan National Security Adviser Hamdullah Mohib during a public speech mentioned ‘Heera Mandi’, the red light district of Lahore in Pakistan as clear contrast to preaching for Jehad by Pakistani clerics in Afghanistan.

This apparently angered Pakistan, who according to a VOA report, cut diplomatic ties to the Afghan NSA Mohib.

Pakistan foreign minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi asked Afghan National Security Adviser via a statement on Friday to refrain from ‘irresponsible statements’ and warneds his statements could fall into the hands of ‘spoilers’.
