Fierce fighting causes concerns among residents in provinces

KABUL (SW) – Fierce clashes between the security forces and the Taliban insurgents in a number of provinces has caused grim concerns among the citizens.

Reports suggest fighting has flared up in Logar, Maidan Wardak, Ghazni, Zabul, Kandahar, Laghman, Nuristan, Nangarhar, Baghlan, Sar-e-Pul, Herat, Balkh, Faryab and the number of other provinces.

In Laghman, governor Rahmatullah Yarmal has said multiple Taliban assaults have been thwarted and the enemy pushed back. He said heavy losses have been inflicted on the rebels, however, the Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahed has asserted they remain control of the areas they overran.



Deadly clashes have also been reported in neighboring Nangarhar and Nuristan province,

Elsewhere, in Logar province heavy clashes have caused panic in the provincial capital Lashkargar forcing residents to stay indoors. Local authorities claim to have killed 13 insurgents and injuring eight others.

Situation also flared-up in southern Kandahar and Zabul province forcing many residents to flee for safety.

Similar reports emerged from Balkh, Faryab, Jawzjan, Sar-e-Pul and Baghlan provinces.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of National Defense spokesman Ruhullah Ahmadzai has said the Taliban have intensified their attacks in a bid to gain leverage for upcoming peace conference abroad. “The Taliban have sustained heavy losses wherever they staged attacks”, he said.
