Haji Nazari, a member of the house, said: “Today, the security situation in Herat is very bad. The situation in the districts was bad before as well, but now the Taliban are attacking inside the city and are killing soldiers and civilians. The government is not paying attention to this. I hope the parliament will pay attention. If the Taliban enter the city and Herat falls, which is the artery of Afghanistan, I think the whole of Afghanistan will fall”, he warned.

Abdul Mohammadi, another member of the house, said: “The Afghan government, especially the presidency, does not have a clear plan to improve the situation, including the security and the economic situation and the deteriorating health situation”.

Ahmad Javed Jeyhun, the deputy speaker of the house, who chaired today’s session, stressed the only solution in Afghanistan would be a political settlement and unity. “The continuing violence and targeted killings, attacks on civilians and the continuing war in all parts of Afghanistan are worrying. Every day, our compatriots lose their loved ones. The main losers of this war are the ordinary people of society. On behalf of the house, I call on the rebels that the only solution to the Afghan issue is political engagement and unity.”

We wished to have the view of the Ministry of Defense in this regard, however, the ministry’s spokesmen refused to respond despite repeated calls.

This come as violence has been raging in the country since the start of peace talks between the Afghan government and the Taliban, and has intensified with the withdrawal of foreign troops.
