KABUL (SW) – The health ministry has warned that positive cases of the COVID-19 have surged by up to 70 per cent in comparison to the past month.

Dr. Mirwais Alizai, deputy spokesman for the Ministry of Public Health, told Salam Watandar that in recent months, between 1,500 and 1,700 suspected cases of coronavirus were getting tested in the country’s laboratories and only around 30 cases were proving positive, but recently out of 1700 tests up to 130 cases are proving positive.

The deputy spokesman of the health ministry said that the reason for the increase in the number of positive COVID-19 cases in the country is the foreign trips of the country’s citizens, especially to Iran and Pakistan, non-observance of health advice, especially social distancing, hand washing and wearing masks.

Dr. Alizai warned that if citizens do not follow health advice, the number of patients and corresponding deaths to the coronavirus will increase.

This comes as India has recorded the highest one-day tally of new Covid-19 cases anywhere in the world – and the country’s highest number of deaths over 24 hours. India is struggling to cope with the soaring numbers – it recorded some 314,835 new coronavirus cases in the last 24 hours, while deaths rose by 2,104.
