Two civilians killed in Taliban attacks in Takhar

TALUQAN (SW) – Two civilians got killed and five others got injured in Takhar province in an armed assault by the Taliban, said local officials on Sunday.

Residents of Dasht-e-Qala district of Takhar province said the Taliban staged the attack in the morning.

Takhar police spokesman Khalil Asir said Taliban fighters launched attacks from several locations. According to Asir, two civilians were killed and five others were wounded in clashes between security forces and Taliban fighters. He added that two members of the Taliban were killed and four others were wounded.

According to the Takhar police spokesman, two shops belonging to the residents of Dasht-e Qala were set on fire and all their equipment was burnt in this incident.

Earlier, the interior ministry blamed the Taliban for killing nearly 2000 civilians across the country in the past Solar Hijri year ending on Saturday March 20, 2021. The ministry spokesman Tariq Arian said in a statement the insurgents staged 92 suicide attacks and over 500 targeted assassinations.

The Taliban have not yet commented on this.
