Taliban kill 12 security forces in Kunduz

KUNDUZ CITY (SW) – Officials in Kunduz confirmed that 12 security forces were killed in a Taliban attack on an army base in the province.

Amruddin Wali, a member of the Kunduz Provincial Council, told Salam Watandar that the Taliban had attacked an army base in the Sar Hoz area of ​​the village of Charkhab, east of Kunduz city, at around 10 pm last night. This base, which is located on the Kunduz – Khan Abad highway, was the last army base in this area.

According to him, after several hours of intense fighting between Taliban insurgents and soldiers at the base, the base collapsed, and at least 10 soldiers got killed.

Wali added that the Taliban also killed two more soldiers who were part of the additional troops dispatched to the area to repulse the insurgents’ attack. The Kunduz provincial council member said four army soldiers and a policeman had been captured by the Taliban.

Despite repeated attempts, Salam Watandar correspondent could not get the views of the officials of the army’s Pamir Corps in Kunduz.

The Taliban claimed responsibility for the attack.

This comes as the second round of peace talks between Afghan government and the Taliban began on Wednesday in Doha, Qatar.
