Electricity generation begins at Sokhtak Dam in Daikundi

NILI (SW) – Electricity generation resumed at the Sokhtak Dam in Daikundi province after a gap of seven years in Daikundi province.

According to the local officials, the power turbines of the Sokhtak Dam began generating electricity on Wednesday that helped light-up homes in the provincial capital Nili.

Nasrullah Ghori, spokesman for the provincial governor, told Salam Watandar that up to 350 kilovolt power generated at the Sokhtak Dam was linked to the grid in the provincial capital on test basis last evening. He added the Dam has a power capacity of generating up to 700 kilovolt of power, which is sufficient to meet the demands of residents in Nili as well as in neighboring Sharistan district.

Foundation stone for the Sokhtak Dam with an estimated cost of $ 4.9 million was laid seven years ago. It was supposed to be completed in three years. The persistent delay in completion of the project had irked the Daikundi residents.
