Gang of 12 kidnappers busted in Herat

BAGHLAN (SW) – A group of 12 kidnappers has been nabbed by security forces in Herat province, local officials said on Monday.

After busting of the gang, Sayed Abdul Wahid Qatali, the governor of Herat, handed over four abducted people to their families who were rescued from the clutches of the kidnapers.

The governor of Herat described the group as part of a large kidnapping network in the province, saying that the 12 members of the gang were guarding the four detainees and that the main perpetrators had not yet been arrested.

The governor added that the security forces are conducting a joint operation to arrest the main perpetrators of the abduction of these four people.

According to the governor of Herat, a number of residents of the province are still being held hostage and efforts are underway to free them. The governor of Herat claimed that in the past three months, about 80 kidnappers have been arrested by the security forces in the province.

Sultan Dawood Sultan, provincial police chief, said many people in the province do not report the abduction of their loved ones to security forces.

As per the recently released individuals, two of them were kidnapped by armed men from the “Bam Herat” recreation area and the other two were kidnapped from the “Farhang Road” area in the center of Herat city.

According to their families, the kidnappers demanded $ 200,000 for freeing each of them.

Meanwhile, the 12-year-old son of Herat’s director of agriculture is still being held hostage by kidnappers.
