Saleh vows to double police force in Kabul

KABUL (SW) – The police personnel in capital Kabul would be doubled to curb the surging bomb blasts and targeted assassinations.

The first vice president Amrullah Saleh said that the formation of the Kabul police is to be doubled. Saleh noted in a Facebook post on Monday that a comparative assessment showed that even in a stable and calm state, Kabul has the lowest police-to-population ratio.

The VP said the increase in police force would be done patiently and carefully. He emphasized that the criterion is set for the recruitment of police, and one of the criteria will be having a basic knowledge of interrogation and investigation.

He added that until this, the army will take over the checkpoints on hills around Kabul and that the responsibility for all the checkpoints of the institutions and part of the Ministry of Interior will be entrusted to the public protection force.

Saleh said this would help at least 500 police officers to return to their original duties.
