President Ghani confers over ceasefire with Gen. Milley, PM Khan

KABUL (SW) – President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani has conferred over ceasefire with the Prime Minister of Pakistan, Imran Khan, and U.S. Chairman of Joint Chiefs of Staff Gen. Mark Milley.

Last evening, President Ghani discussed security situation and the peace process with Gen. Mark Milley, the US Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff during a meeting at the Arg palace.

According to Sediq Sediqqi, spokesman for the presidency, discussions between the two leaders revolved around the high level of violence in the country. He said both stressed upon immediate reduction in violence and ceasefire in Afghanistan.

According the spokesman for the presidency, Gen. Milley assured President Ghani of Washington’s support for the Afghan National Security and Defense Forces.

The meeting was also attended by vice president Amrullah Saleh, National Security Adviser Hamdullah Muhib, top U.S. commander in Afghanistan Gen. Scott Miller and other senior officials.

Separately, President Ghani held a telephonic conversation with the Prime Minister of Pakistan, Imran Khan. According to the presidency, Khan assured of Pakistan’s support for reduction in violence and ceasefire in Afghanistan.

This comes as a Taliban delegation led by its deputy head Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar visited Islamabad on Wednesday following a break in intra-Afghan talks in Doha, Qatar.
