Car bombing kills 3 soldiers in Ghazni

GHAZNI CITY (SW) – A suicide car bombing has claimed the lives of at least three security forces in Ghazni province, an official confirmed on Wednesday.

Ghazni governor’s spokesman Wahidullah Jumazada told Salam Watandar that a car full of explosives targeted a security base near Andar district in the morning. According to him, 3 army soldiers were killed and 2 others were wounded in this incident.

Jumazada added that the vehicle was identified by the security forces and was hit before reaching the target that is why the damage was not huge. The spokesman for the Ghazni governor said that security forces had also discovered a mini-truck full of explosives at the scene of the attack.

Ghazni police spokesman Ahmad Khan Sirat confirmed the incident. He said clashes between security forces and the Taliban at the base lasted for hours.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Defense announced that the Taliban had attacked an army base in the Andar district. It said a suicide bomber who tried to detonate a car bomb at the base was first identified by security forces and later killed before reaching the target. According to the statement, the Taliban clashed with security forces after the car bomb exploded, killing two army personnel and wounding three others.

The attack was repulsed and the Taliban suffered heavy casualties, the statement said.

The Taliban have not yet commented.

About two weeks ago, a car bomb attack on a commando unit based in Qala-e-Jawza, the capital of Ghazni province, killed 30 security personnel and wounded 24 others.
