KABUL (SW) – A day after armed assailants attacked the Kabul University, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, NATO and an array of rights groups and diplomatic missions condemned the attack.

The Secretariat of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) issued a statement on Tuesday saying that the organization condemns and rejects all forms of violence, terrorism and extremism.

NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg expressed his condolences to the families of the victims and stressed the importance of unified front against the so-called Islamic State group.

In connection with the national day of mourning declared by the Afghan government over the Kabul University massacre, all diplomatic missions hoisted their national flags at half-mast on Tuesday.

The attack on the university by armed assailants also provoked a sharp reaction from citizens. A number of Kabul University students gathered at the entrance in response to the killing of their colleagues and called for a halt to peace talks with the Taliban.

This comes as Amrullah Saleh, the first vice president, has said there was evidence that the attack was carried out by the Taliban.

The group has, however, rejected their involvement in this attack as the so-called Islamic State took responsibility for the attack.

As a result of the armed attack on Kabul University, 19 students got killed and 42 others got injured.
