Afghanistan to receive Covid-19 vaccine by end of 2021

KABUL (SW) – Officials at the Ministry of Health have said Afghanistan will receive the coronavirus vaccine by the end of 2021.

Masouma Jafari, deputy spokeswoman for the Ministry of Health, told Salam Watandar that Afghanistan would receive the vaccine by the end of 2021. According to her, the international community has pledged to provide the vaccine to the people of Afghanistan.

She added that the vaccine pledged by the international community would cover 20 to 30 percent of the country’s population. According to her, it remain difficult to impose quarantine again therefore people should observe hygiene measures and avoid gatherings.

In the meantime, UNICEF said in a statement on Monday that it would send about 2.2 billion Covid-19 vaccines to developing countries in 2021 in a “major mission”.

Etleva Kadilli, director at UNICEF’s supply division, has said this valuable collaboration has a long way to go to ensure that the transport capacity is sufficient for this large and historic operation.

Earlier, officials in the Ministry of Health warned about the spread of the second wave of the corona virus as number of patients referred to public and private hospitals has increased tenfold.
