Scores of girls’ schools closed down in Logar

PUL-E-ALAM (SW) – Officials at the department of education in Logar have confirmed many schools in the Baraki Barak, Charkh and Mohammad Agha districts of the province remain closed due to insecurity.

After the closure of girls’ schools – from the fourth grade upwards – in Azarah, Khoshi and Kharwar districts of Logar province, now the schools above the primary school in Pul-e-Alam city and Baraki Barak, Charkh and Mohammad Agha districts have also been closed.

Shahpour Arab, spokesman for the Logar department of education, told Salam Watandar that due to increased insecurity in these districts of the province, girls ‘schools from the fourth grade onwards and in the city of Pol-e Alam, girls’ schools from the sixth grade onwards have been closed. .

The spokesman for the Logar department of education added that 50% of girls in Logar have been deprived of education due to insecurity and gender discrimination.

According to him, the department of education has entered into talks with the tribal elders of the province in this regard to chalk out a solution.

A number of Logar residents said gunmen have been closing down girls’ schools in Pul-e-Alam city and Mohammad Agha districts for a week now.

However, Deedar Ahmad Lawang, spokesman for the Logar governor, told Salam Watandar that a number of schools in Logar province have been closed due to the cold weather.
