KABUL (SW) – The National Directorate of Security on Sunday claimed the deputy head of al-Qaeda for the Indian subcontinent has been killed in a security operation.

According to a statement issued by the National Directorate of Security, the ‘No. 2 of al-Qaeda’ in the Indian Sub-Continent Abu Mohsin Al-Misri was killed in the central Ghazni province.

Interim minister for interior ministry Massoud Andarabi said in this regard that presence and killing of Al-Misri proved close ties between al-Qaeda and the Taliban. He said in a series of tweets that it has also proved the stance of Taliban about shunning ties as ‘false’.

Al Masri was identified by his alias Husam Abd-al-Ra’uf on the FBI’s list of most-wanted terrorists. According to the FBI, Al Masri was “wanted in connection with his membership in Al Qaeda, an organization known for committing acts of terrorism against the government of the United States” and was “believed to be associated with the countries of Afghanistan, Pakistan and Egypt”.

A federal warrant for his arrest was issued by the Southern District Court of New York on December 27, 2018.
