KABUL (SW) – The Integrity Watch Afghanistan on Wednesday claimed ‘circles in the Presidential Palace’ are politicizing and using the anti-corruption commission to their advantage.

Ikram Afzali, chief executive of IWA, told a news conference on Wednesday that the government has failed to fight corruption and that the fight against corruption remained a slogan. He added that the Anti-Corruption Commission is not independent and that circles in the presidential palace are trying to politicize the office.

The chief executive of the IWA further said that the selection of key members of the Anti-Corruption Commission has been discriminative, and that the Presidential Palace is trying to politicize the anti-corruption process by politicizing the institutions responsible for fighting corruption.

The IWA chief executive stressed that the government should pursue policies to depoliticize anti-corruption institutions.

The Presidential Palace has not commented on the allegations made by the IWA chief executive.
