World Health Organization (WHO) Afghanistan, on the occasion of “World No Tobacco Day,” has stated that tobacco and nicotine companies deliberately design their products to hook users.
The organization wrote on Sunday (May 31) on X that the tobacco industry hides its deadly risks behind deceptive tactics. Sugars, flavours, and cooling agents mask the harshness of nicotine, causing users to inhale more and become dependent more quickly.
According to the WHO, exposing the true mask of tobacco will help secure a healthier future for the people of Afghanistan.
The organization has called for unity to safeguard every Afghan life and promote smoke-free spaces. The WHO previously reported that one in four adults in Afghanistan regularly uses tobacco.
May 31 was designated by the World Health Organization in 1987 as World No Tobacco Day to raise global awareness about the dangers and irreversible health consequences of tobacco use.
